About
This is a feminist blog with be-nice-already imperative. That’s the PUNK part, ok? I’m here to talk about and foster the CREATION of NEW VALUES.
I am a lesbian with a SEPARATIST agenda. That’s right, I love women and I’m really fucking serious about it. There is nothing about the male anatomy or the way that men act or (might) treat me that could possibly compensate for the moral and emotional damage inflicted by a relationship wherein I am necessarily the lesser party because of my vagina. Nothing. And don’t get me started on hairy backs, ok??
The power of the patriarchy and its messenger, male privilege, is simply mind-boggling. Though I hope for its total eradication from our collective consciousness, I refuse to hold my breath for its demise. We are therefore developing feminism under non-ideal conditions.
In the mean time, I PURPOSEFULLY LIMIT THE ENERGY I GIVE TO MEN. I reserve everything I can for myself and for the other women in my life. It’s not always easy and, most days, at least some of my energy gets sucked from me without my express permission. Nevertheless, it is True that my life has improved substantially with the acceptance and the practice of a philosophy that puts ME in control of my relationship with the world.
In every decision we make, all day, every day, small and large, we choose which people and situations we give our energy to; what we pay attention to, what we ignore; and how much of it we invest in interactions and relationships with men. Human connections are choices. I connect with women and value my female relationships above any that I’ve ever had with a man. My emotional energy, my focus, is on WOMEN.
Also, I have Depression. Love is the only happiness in life. (We have lesbian George Sand to thank for that badass wisdom!) Art, nature, and inter-species friendship are reasons to live. So is delicious food. And the women I love. And a few other things like coffee in bed on Sunday morning with my partner and our pets and the newspaper .
I am a vegetarian. And I do not wear clothing that utilizes my body as free corporate advertising space. I love “second-hand” and vintage/old stuff. I have a license to drive and to practice law in the state of Massachusetts, but these days, I’m only using one of them. Because I despise the practices of both the government and the legal profession.
DISCLAIMER SECTION:
I am a white, well-educated, 31 year old American woman. I am the daughter of two extremely progressive, but heterosexual, parents who embrace my radicalism as a part of my familial inheritance. I do not deny my social privilege. It allows me to reject and criticize the status quo with relative safety. It exposes me to ways of living and ideologies that are not bound up in survival, but rather, with idealism and personal fulfillment through freedom of thought and choice. Oooh, agency!
I will not apologize for the majority of my privilege because I didn’t ask for it; I was born with or into most of it. Some of it I have actually worked for and some of it I use to “survive.” I will, however, readily apologize if my privilege blinds me or desensitizes me or if I unreasonably capitalize on its fruits to the detriment of others. Please call me out when you see me doing this. I am here to learn and to engage in intellectual solidarity with my fellow feminist sisters. That’s all. I am NOT here to offend or to be offended.
Additionally, I do not deny that I have internalized many of the practices that mirror the Patriarchy’s dysfunctional and destructive paradigm of domination/submission. Likewise, I am not personally attacking you when I attack a particular behavior that you may choose to participate in, so please try to control your defense. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

I just wrote a follow-up to my experience with Off Our Backs because Nikki Craft has joined their crusade against me for speaking out against racism within the Radical Feminist Movement. What you can do to help is read it, post it, link to it, forward it, just get it out there! Much thanks!
